The Basic Orienteering Class will be in October. Here are the details.
Basic Orienteering Class
The Vulcan Orienteering Club will teach a beginning Orienteering Class at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in the Nature Center on October 09, 2021. It is open to anyone who is open to roaming the woods. The cost is $55 with early registration and includes a sandwich lunch and a compass.
Class starts at 8:30 am and will include three hours of classroom training, 90 minutes of practice, and a two-hour competition. We will finish by 5:00 pm.
Learn what Orienteering ‘is’ and ‘is not’. Learn how to use your compass. Do you know how to read a terrain map? You will after this class. Learn and practice techniques to help you make a route choice and stick to it.
The World Games 2022 in Birmingham will feature three orienteering events. It’s going to take a LOT of volunteers to help and those with Orienteering experience will be in high demand.
The cost is $55 with early registration and includes a sandwich lunch and a compass. You can register online here or you can send your name, phone number and email address with a check made out to Friends of Turkey Creek Nature Preserve to Anne Mathews, 5430 Etta Drive, Mount Olive, AL 35117.
