Mark your calendar for the Darter Festival Sunday April 9th beginning at 3pm till 6pm.  Hosted by Birmingham Southern College’s Southern Environmental Center it will be located at the MakeBhm location.    http://www.makebhm.com/

April 23, 2017 at 2pm-April 23rd: Tapawingo Springs Preserve Hike

The Freshwater Land Trust is excited to announce its 2017 Sunday Hike Series!

Throughout the year, we’re hosting monthly guided hikes so that you can see and learn about the places we’ve helped preserve thanks to your support.

No need to RSVP—all you’ll need is your hiking shoes! Invite your friends and family, and follow us on social media for updates and further information on where we’ll be visiting each month.

Tapawingo Springs Preserve is a long-term restoration site that the Freshwater Land Trust has been working to preserve in Pinson, AL. Covering more than 60 acres, Tapawingo Springs is a natural wetland that protects one of the largest springs in Jefferson County and is a critical habitat for three federal endangered species of fish.

Meeting location: 4501 Tapawingo Trail, Pinson, AL 35126

May 21, 2017 2pm- Turkey Creek restoration site Hike

The Turkey Creek restoration hike will take participants through a section of intact, diverse forest to the site of the Freshwater Land Trust’s stream restoration project near the former Shadow Lake dam. Through the cooperative efforts of the Freshwater Land Trust, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and Jennings Environmental, this site, home to the endangered Vermilion Darter, was recently transformed from highly disturbed habitat to an aesthetically pleasing and functioning

July 2, 2017 at 1pm-Friends of TCNP – First Sunday Event – Build a Bio Boat for Float Your Boat Festival

Each year we have a Build a Bio Boat class in preparation for our Float Your Boat summer festival which is on July 15, 2017 this year.   We have a Bio-Boat Race at the festival and it is for folks who build their own boat out of natural materials.  This class cost is $5 for materials to build a boat.  Much fun is always present at this class!

Meet at 1pm at the falls picnic table.

Note:  you do not have to attend this class to enter the race.

July 15, 2017 at 10am-Float Your Boat

Our 8th annual “Float Your Boat” Summer Festival will be Saturday, July 15th – Mark your calendar now!  The festival begins at 10am with a Kid Zone and races start at noon.  More information soon.
