Birmingham Ultra Trail Society (BUTS) and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve are teaming up to host the Darter Dash 5K/10k on Saturday, September 14. It is a fantastic run through the trails at one of Birmingham’s great outdoor treasures. These trails include some moderate elevation and you’ll run along some beautiful stretches beside Turkey Creek. Only a very short period of both races will be on pavement.
The Preserve protects a stretch of the creek that is the only place in the world where the Vermilion Darter, as well as other Darter species, live. It is truly a unique and beautiful place.
There is also a unique, optional finish down the waterfall tubing “slide” straight into the creek! This is not required by any means, but is highly encouraged because it’s just so fun!
Packet Pickup & Race-day Registration: The morning of September 14 from 6:30am to 7:45am. The 10k will start at 8 am, and the 5k will follow at 8:15 am.
We’ll have a post-race award ceremony featuring hand-painted awards and breakfast with mimosas will be served for all race participants and their supporters. All proceeds go to fund educational programs at Turkey Creek Nature Preserve.
